Bloating can be a common issue when you are premenstrual. But it can also be an early pregnancy symptom. It’s caused by the boost in progesterone and estrogen. Progesterone, the pregnancy hormone, relaxes smooth muscle tissues throughout the body, including your gastrointestinal tract. That means your gut is processing food more slowly, so that your body has more time to absorb nutrients from food for the baby. But it may also translate to bloat and gas.
